At the center of the captivating rolling fields, dwelt a boy named Shepherd. His existence was untarnished, simple yet virtuous. His main role was essentially to care for his flock of rams.

Their low murmuring and the rustling of the gales across the solo tree on the hilltop were his main associates. Day upon day, looking out for his charges imbued in him a notion of calm satisfaction.

One afternoon he dashed into the village shouting “Wolf! There is a wolf attacking my sheep!” The frightened villagers ran up the hills to offer assistance but discovered no beast.

The boy giggled at the dilemma on their faces. This game persisted for a few days more. Yet, one here noon, a real wolf did attack the flock. The shepherd boy raced for aid shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one showed up.

Frustrated and alone, the boy struggled against the wolf but could protect only few of his flock. Devastated, he went back to the village only to be met with a reprimand on honesty and the consequences of dishonesty.

The story of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the importance of honesty, the consequences of lying and the risks of crying wolf. Moreover, it highlights how trust once violated, is hard to regain. It's a story as relevant today as it was then.
